Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled AWS Cloud DMS Specialist to lead complex database migration and replication initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in AWS services, PostgreSQL, and cross-platform migrations, combined with strong automation and DevOps capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration – Migration & Replication
- Design, plan, and execute migrations using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Perform cross-platform migrations (e.g., Oracle → PostgreSQL, SQL Server → PostgreSQL).
- Troubleshoot replication lag, data inconsistencies, and performance issues.
- Manage schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Handle installation, upgrades, patching, backup, and recovery operations.
- Configure roles, privileges, and security policies
- Review PL/SQL code, optimize performance, and assist in schema design.
- Automation & Infrastructure
- Automate migration workflows using AWS Lambda and Python (Boto3).
- Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with AWS CloudFormation for DMS, networking, IAM, and database resources.
- Integrate DMS with AWS services like CloudWatch, SNS, S3, Secrets Manager.
- Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with application, database, and DevOps teams to ensure minimal downtime.
- Maintain detailed documentation for migration strategies, runbooks, and operational processes.
- Compliance & Support
- Ensure adherence to GxP and CFR 21 Part 11 standards.
- Provide 24×7 support for critical migration activities.
Technical Skills Required
- AWS DMS: Setup, tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
- AWS CloudFormation: Develop and maintain IaC templates.
- PostgreSQL: Advanced SQL, schema conversion, performance optimization.
- Automation: AWS Lambda, Python scripting for migration and monitoring.
- Cross-Platform Migration: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL → PostgreSQL.
- AWS Services: RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager.
- Tools: AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), pg_dump/pg_restore utilities.
- Other: Linux shell scripting, network configuration, TLS/SSL connectivity.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5–8 years of experience as DBA
- Experience with zero-downtime migration strategies.
- Familiarity with Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
- Expertise in data validation and reconciliation using Python.
- Knowledge of cost optimization and scalability best practices on AWS.
